Nostrilla Nasal Decongestant Contaminated with Deadly Bacteria

Nostrilla Nasal DecongestantOn October 19, 2011, Insight Pharmaceuticals, LLC of Langhorne, Pa., announced a recall 34,092 bottles of nasal spray Nostrilla Nasal Decongestant because the spray may be contaminated with the deadly bacteria Burkholderia cepacia.  

Burkholderia cepacia is a dangerous bacteria that causes serious infections in health care patients with weak immune systems or chronic lung conditions, particularly cystic fibrosis.  Death rates for patients infected Burkholderia cepacia have been reported to be as high as 35%.

Insight Pharmaceuticals distributed Nostrilla Nasal Decongestant nationwide through pharmacies and other retail outlets. The contaminated bottles of the nasal spray are all thought to have been sold in the same lot: Lot #11G075, UPC Code 6373673005.Nostrilla Nasal Decongestant 2-in-1 Nostrilla Nasal Decongestant comes in a 1/2 ounce, plastic bottle marked with lot #11G075 on the label and with an expiration date of 05/2014 stamped on the side.

Consumers who have purchased Nostrilla Nasal Decongestant from this affected lot should return the product and contact their doctors and the company.
